This weeks big release. Baz Luhrman decides on a bold new interpretation of the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel by creating a meditative black and white film with a soundtrack made up of birdsong and the odd dripping tap. Ok, maybe not – Baz ain’t no shrinking violet. Expect more sequins than there are stars in the sky, a jukebox soundtrack that’ll include recent ear burners and DiCaprio giving his best smug expression a workout.
After walking away from The Hobbit visionary director Guillermo del Toro brings you the latest massive robots movie. Needless to say, the world needs saving sharpish and who better to do the job but Rinko Kikuchi (Norwegian Wood) and Charlie Hunnam (one of that special elite of actors that have been in both Sons of Anarchy and Byker Grove).
Thriller featuring drugs, guns, cops, and the Serbian mafia, but the Scorsese indorsement ensures this is a cut above. See it before the unnecessary Hollywood remake starring Zac Effron (yes you read that right).
Cert. 15 Swedish with English subs
Apparently an agonisingly extended advert for Google masquerading as a comedy. Featuring a couple of guys who once did a good movie.
NIGHT OF SILENCE:
Berlin prize-winner, this striking drama tells the story of a child bride forced to marry a man over 50 years older than her and just out of prison.
Cert. PG Turkish with English subs
